Former After School member Uie has been active in both her singing and acting career. She made her acting debut in 2009 in MBCŌĆÖs Queen Seondeok as young Mishil. Despite having absolutely no lines in the show, she received massive attention for looking so much alike with Ko Hyun Jung who played the adult version of the character. Uie got her lead role only three years after her acting debut. She received much love for her role in KBSŌĆÖ weekend drama Ojakgyo Family (2011) as a young woman who suddenly appears in front of a family of four brothers. Many viewers empathized with her character as she misses her father, who had gone missing a long time ago. The singer-turned-actress took home two Best New Actress Awards at the 2011 KBS Drama Awards and the 2012 Baeksang Arts Awards for her performance in Ojakgyo Family. She then starred as the female lead in KBSŌĆÖ smash-hit mini-series Jeon Woo-chi (2012) and MBCŌĆÖs weekend drama Golden Rainbow (2013).
In MBCŌĆÖs Marriage Contract (2016), Uie co-starred with Lee Seo Jin and received favorable reviews for her portrayal of a single mom diagnosed with a terminal illness raising a young daughter. Marriage Contract tells the story of a man, who believes that money is everything. He soon meets a woman in despair and finds her to be his true love. The star won the Best Actress at the MBC Drama Award for her outstanding performance who left a deep impression on the viewers with her sad romance and heart-breaking maternal love.
Although UieŌĆÖs Night Light (2016) and Manhole (2017) both turned out to be a flop, her weekend dramas continued their undefeated streaks. KBSŌĆÖMy Only One (2018-2019) tells the story of a woman whose life is turned upside down when her biological father appears in front of her after 28 years of absence. Although many viewers found her character a little annoying, the strong, loving family bond between the two characters and her emotional acting received great reviews. My Only One recorded a nationwide viewership rating of 49.4 percent and thanks to the dramaŌĆÖs success, the acress was able to establish herself as a 10-year veteran actress. Uie, who has not appeared in any dramas for a while now, is making her small-screen comeback with medical fantasy drama Ghost Doctor. She co-stars with Rain and plays Se Jin, a neurosurgeon who reunites with her first love after a decade and falls into confusion as he gets into an accident. I hope Uie, who has consistently shown success in many weekend dramas, will receive satisfactory results with this upcoming mini-series. ┬Ā Editor Seo Hayne: I like actors as they faithfully lead through their long running-time.
